HIKING WITH OUR BABY

Guys! we went hiking with our one year old for the first time!

Will and I loved getting out for a solid hiking session pre baby and we both started to get the itch for another adventure. So I jumped on facebook marketplace and purchased a secondhand Deuter Kid Comfort 3 backpack. We initially decided to do the Mt Nebo hike as it was a lot shorter in distance and time. Literally the night before we decided it wouldn’t hit the spot and wasn’t challenging enough so we made a last minute decision to hike Bare Rock Track instead. For those of you who haven’t done this walk before it’s approximately 13km and normally takes 3.5-4.5 hours. We were both scared that we wouldn’t make it to the peak but were very keen to give it a go!

The night beforehand we packed a bag with first aid kits, extra clothing for Amia, nappies, nappy wipes, nappy bags, snacks etc. and then the morning of we filled it with liters of water and all three of our lunch boxes with icepacks . This bag was the bag that was assigned to me! Will had the big backpack with little Amia in it!

We woke super early and literally got changed smashed some bowls of porridge and fed Amia her breaky in the car on the way. The drive was about 1.5 hours, we left at 6:30am so arrive around 8am. We commenced our walk up the steep steps and off we went. This was is spectacular. There are views half way up the track that are unreal. I honestly could just stop there… after about 3 km’s Will began feeling some blisters coming on (i told him not to wear his new hiking boots, but of course men don’t listen hahah). Luckily I knew this was going to happen so I had packed some bandaids!

After a sweaty couple of hours we had reached the top and we enjoyed some lunch overlooking the stunning 360 degree views. Amia ate a whole pear that she occasionally would drag and dip into the dirt (sigh…) She also attempted to climb down rocks and scare the living hell out of us haha. Overall though you could tell that she thoroughly enjoyed herself, she loved collecting the rocks at the top and was very happy in the backpack taking in all the bird sounds and beautiful views.

Will and I were so proud that we did this walk and didn’t let having a one year old stop us from doing the things we love. We will 100% be booking in another hiking trip sometime soon! Maybe after Will’s blisters heal…… 😂
