How These Educational Cards Work?
When these educational cards are used as intended, they can drastically enhance the learning process by making information easier to retain. My cards utilise simplistic designs and strategically placed wording directly below the imagery in order to help your child associate known objects/items with the spoken and written words. In doing so, your child is encouraged to use active recall, which invites your baby to see the imagery and recall the associated word.
Repeating the process of active recall helps to improve your baby’s memory by creating strong connections in the brain. In the scenario where your child struggles with some cards more than others, you can choose to focus on that card more than others in order to solidify those connections.
In addition to this, these cards also utilise a concept called spaced repetition, which involves further improving their ability to recall the information. As it suggests, it involves having spaced out intervals between the use of the cards so that each time they are used, they are recalling the information from a previous session. Once this is done multiple times, permanent memories are created and true learning has occurred. Your childs meta-cognition will also benefit from the use of these cards, as they begin to remember which cards they 'got right' out of the pack which in turn invites them to evaluate their own performance!
I like to use two sets of cards and play match it up! Amia also loves to point, so we like to play ‘point to the _____'‘ or “where’s the _____” games which I feel really benefit her! It’s all about engaging at the end of the day and interacting with our little geniuses. These cards have been amazing for that!
